Spring brings a new look to the GLISSANDO. Stephanie Gustafson Amfahr will happily add your programming notes and other news to the newsletter. She is a staff writer for the Harp Column and a Young Artist with Da Camera of Houston. Many thanks to Stephanie, who is our incoming GHC Secretary.

I am sure you will be at the Grace Browning Recital and Masterclass on May 5th. Be sure to stay for the reception. This is a free concert for everyone to enjoy. Thanks to Emily Klein for arranging this very special event, and be sure to read further for more information regarding this event.

We have new officers who are ready and excited to build our GHC community in so many ways. Programs, summer workshops, and the Mildred Milligan Competition set for spring 2019. Spring always brings new beginnings, and we are working to grow our chapter. Please invite your friends to Grace’s recital; it’s going to be great!

Praised for her “superb technical acumen and sensitive musicality” (South Florida Classical Review), Grace Browning has established herself as a prominent orchestral harpist, avid soloist, and engaging chamber musician. After spending three years with the New World Symphony, Grace won the principal harp position with the Dallas Opera Orchestra in 2014. One year later, Grace was appointed principal harpist of the Santa Fe Opera, where she now performs every summer. In addition to opera, Grace’s 2017-2018 season also includes performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and a European tour with the Houston Symphony.

As a soloist, Grace has performed with the Pacific Symphony, the New World Symphony, and the National Repertory Orchestra. She was a winner of the Young Texas Artists Solo Competition and the Aspen Music Festival Competition in 2015. As a chamber musician, she loves performing with the Dallas Harp Quartet and arranging new works for the unique ensemble. She has also premiered harp and voice transcriptions of arias, art songs, and lieder in collaboration with soprano Sara Gartland Lomeli. Grace studied at The Juilliard School with renowned harp pedagogue Nancy Allen after receiving her undergraduate degree at University of Michigan in 2009.

Starting in 2018, Grace will be leaving the Dallas Opera to join the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as principal harpist. She is incredibly grateful for her four years in Dallas and is looking forward to new experiences up north!
