Emily Mitchell Masterclass
"How to Practice your Performance" World-renowned harpist Emily Mitchell will be giving a masterclass for harp students who are members of the Houston Harp Society Chapter on April 12 at 6:30 in the Musician's Union Performance Hall (5771 Enid Street Houston, Texas 77009 - come to the Sylvester St. side of the building to find the parking lot). Ms. Mitchell will discuss practice techniques with participating students and how to make the most of your practice time. Students are asked to bring problematic portions of the music they are working on rather than preparing and playing through an entire piece. Together, Ms. Mitchell and students will work to get over the hump of a problem that is slow to resolve. The class is geared for more advanced harpists, but beginners and even adult students should be able to benefit. Ms. Mitchell won the coveted First Prize at the prestigious Seventh (1979) International Harp Contest in Jerusalem and enjoyed a 30 year career performing and teaching in New York City. After moving to Texas, she taught at Stephen F. Austin State University and Sam Houston State University before relocating to New Mexico where she currently serves as the acting principal harpist of the El Paso Symphony.
