A Message From Our President

Hello Harpists,

Spring is in the air! I am feeling hopeful and excited about the season ahead of us! Many of our student members and their teachers are hard at work preparing their Milligan Competition pieces for recording later this month. We cannot wait to hear their playing and celebrate their hard work. We are still accepting late registrations until April 10th, so don’t delay if you are still wanting to sign up! I also want to draw your attention to the upcoming deadlines for the American Harp Society’s national competition, and Young Composers Project, both have submission deadlines of April 15th. More information can be found here: https://harpsociety.org/about/programs/index.html.

High school age harp students are eligible to audition for the HS Orchestra & Chamber Music session, which is 3 weeks and includes 2 orchestra concerts, harp ensemble and sectional work; younger students audition for the two week long String Ensembles (Session 2), which also includes string orchestra and small ensembles. Important: Milligan Update

After careful consideration, the Milligan committee has decided to change the 2021 Mildred Milligan Competition to a virtual format. The safety of our competitors, judges, and harp community is our highest priority, and we feel that a virtual competition will best allow us to encourage young harpists while keeping everyone safe during these challenging times.

Competitors will be asked to video record themselves playing their two pieces, and submit those videos to the competition chairperson (Naomi Hoffmeyer) by April 25th, 2021. Specific details about video submission and tips for successful recording can be found on the GHC website.
