Hello Harpists!

Hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer and staying cool. If you are travelling with your harp make sure to share pictures with us! Our board has been hard at work planning the upcoming season, so stay tuned for more details about recitals, student events, and social events.

Houston Summer Harp Camps

Virtual Houston Summer Harp Festival
July 26th – 28th

Tuition: $145

Registration deadline: July 12th at midnight

Who: Middle School aged – Adult Harpists.

Platform: Zoom, links will be sent out to registered participants.

Our virtual camp will be an opportunity for harpists to participate in workshops and masterclasses and tap into more expressive and confident playing on solo music. Over three days, students will participate in exciting workshops, enjoy one-one-one instruction from our faculty, get to know fellow harpists in break-out rooms, and hone performance skills.

There won’t be any prepared ensemble parts required for participation, but please select two solo pieces you know well and want to take to the next level. Stay tuned for exciting announcements about workshops, guest artists, and more! 
 
GHC Historian Position Open
Are you always taking photos? Love attending harp events? Love harp photography? We want YOU to be our chapter Historian. We have so many great events and harpists in our chapter, and want to get more organized about documenting and celebrating the chapter. If you are interested in serving in this role (or know someone who would be perfect), contact Hope Cowan: hope.k.cowan@gmail.com, 507-993-4969.
Peter Wiley Harp Regulation
The HarpDoc will be visiting Houston from August 26th the September 6th, and he’s ready to regulate your harp! If you’re interested in learning more about the process, you can read more here.

The current price for a pedal harp regulation is $365. Harps that Peter has serviced within the last three years will receive a $25 “Good Care” discount.

Houston Youth Harp Ensemble

Registration for the Houston Youth Harp Ensemble is now open!

This Saturday-morning program directed by Stephanie Gustafson and Naomi Hoffmeyer is open to all middle and high school students who play lever or pedal harp.

“All That Jazz” will feature rhythmic and jazzy duos/trios written for harp ensemble. Parts are sent out in August and assigned based on individual students’ abilities. Each semester concludes with a concert and celebration.

The Lagniappe Trio
Congratulations to the Lagniappe Trio (Rachel Taratoot Ciraldo, flute, Christopher Lowry, viola, and Stephanie Gustafson, harp), who recently performed a family-friendly virtual concert that explores the world of insects.

The concert features lots of photos and interviews with the composer, a zookeeper, a beekeeper, in addition to music that depicts beetles, flies, ants, bees, and butterflies!
