A Message From Our President

The harp used in the royal wedding on May 19, 2018. It was played by Anne Denholm, the current Royal Harpist.

Emily Klein approached me a few months ago with her idea of bringing Grace Browning to the GHC for a masterclass and recital. Emily organized and hosted this special event for our GHC which also involved a wonderful ensemble of musicians in the Houston Symphony. Participants in Grace Browning’s masterclass were harpists Audrey Deigaard, Alyssa Elizondo, Runa Katayama, Zoë Winn, and Rachel Zhang. Generous underwriters of this event were Paula Page, Kate Gabriele, Laurie Meister, Stephanie Gustafson, and Laura Richardson. Hope Cowan generously donated her time and talents to organize the artist’s reception. This event was a great example of our continued growth and dedication to our students and teachers. Thank you to Emily and her committee for their leadership.

On the GHC drawing board for 2018-2019 is the presentation of an AHS artist in concert. Kate Gabriele, GHC Vice President, will host a meeting and present a program on copywriting. We will have our annual “Holidaze” party in January. Hope Cowan will chair the Mildred Milligan Competition in the spring. There are plenty of opportunities for you to serve, and if you have any ideas to share, please email me at lesliehoward1@yahoo.com.

Happy Summer,
Mary Jane Sinclair
