A Message From Our President

Hello Harpists!

As we near the end of the semester, please share with us any concerts you have happening! Congratulations to the students who participated in the two masterclasses last month, you were wonderful representatives of our chapter. Students and teachers, the deadline to sign up to participate in the May 22nd student recital has been extended to May 15th! Let’s make this a wonderful finale to our GHC season. I look forward to seeing you there!

GHC President Election
The results are in! Thank you so much for voting in our recent Presidential Election for the Greater Houston Chapter of the American Harp Society.

Our newly elected President is Emily Klein Goldstein – please wish her a warm welcome! Emily, congratulations! Read more about Emily below.

Emily is the Principal Harpist with Opera in the Heights and regularly performs with the Houston Symphony.  She has performed with esteemed artists Josh Groban, Renée Fleming, Ana María Martínez, Weird Al Yankovic, and The Suffers band in collaboration with the Houston Symphony. From 2012-2015 Emily was a member of Da Camera of Houston’s Young Artist Program where she developed the Holocaust Music Project. In addition to her diverse performance schedule Emily teaches the harp at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and at the AFA Summer Music Conservatory. Emily received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

AFA Summer Music Festival 2022
Applications are now open for the AFA Summer Music Festival which will be held from June 13 through July 16th at Kinder HSPVA in downtown Houston.
There is a daily harp class that includes harp ensemble, music history, music theory, harp maintenance, one masterclass with a special guest, daily orchestra and elective classes. Students receive one on one attention with harp teacher Emily Klein during each session. Audition requirements are 2 contrasting solo pieces.

The Glissando Scholarship Fund provides scholarship assistance for harpists in each session.

Current 9th-12th graders; Strings, winds, brass, percussion, and harp

String Ensembles, Session 2 
July 5 – 16
Current 4th-8th grade strings and harp

New for Summer 2022: Bus transportation will be provided for students within Fort Bend ISD.

GHC Spring Recital
The Greater Houston Chapter of the American Harp Society is hosting a Spring Student Recital in May, and we’d love to hear you perform! If you’re interested, please sign up here. The deadline to sign up is May 15.
Houston Summer Harp Festival
The Houston Summer Harp Festival will be held July 12th-17th at Houston Baptist University. It is open to students entering 6th grade – graduated 12th grade. We have two levels of harp ensemble, and also do masterclasses, workshops, and fun harp activities. It is a great chance for harpists to build ensemble skills, play together, learn more about the world of harp, and make new harp friends. Let me know if you have any questions.
